The Struggling Economy

Have you heard the news about the stock market and the incredible downward spiral it has experienced this week? Perhaps you or your loved ones have been impacted by the loss and by the struggling economy. My dear friends, for me it is these real life experiences that the Lord gives me that drives home the message He is trying to teach me - and you- through His word.
What does the Bible say to me (and to you) about what is happening in the financial arena?
Jesus says to us - My dear child ....."Do not store up for yourself treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in a steal. (Or where the stock market plummets)
BUT, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
I love how the Message translates the last part of this verse - "The place your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and will end up being."
Dear friend, where are you storing up your treasure? Where are you putting your hope for your future? Is it in your bank account? In the stock market? Or are you investing in things of eternal value?
When my mom passed away this year it impacted me to look around her room, her home, and to see so many beautiful things that she loved dearly - that were left behind.... she could take none of them with her.
Make a deposit today in the things of eternal value - in your relationship with God (spend time with Him today!), in your children and their character development (could you teach them a Bible story, or begin learning a memory verse with them?), in your spouse (have you encouraged your spouse in their spiritual walk), in those you know who are not followers of Jesus (who could you share the news of Jesus with TODAY?)
Jesus promises that when we invest in things that matter in eternity they will never fall in value and we will never lose our investment.
